Meta Ads & Social Strategy

The Meta Ads funnel I actually use (TOFU, MOFU, BOFU explained without acronyms)

Layered glowing blue funnel on a dark background — Meta Ads funnel structure TOFU MOFU BOFU

When a new Meta Ads client comes in, the first thing I do is look at their Business Manager. 9 times out of 10 I find the same thing: one campaign, one audience, one creative, conversion as the objective. And that's where the budget burns.

The 3 audience temperatures

You can't talk to someone who doesn't know you the same way you talk to someone already in your cart. You have to change the message based on how close the person is to the buying decision.

TOFU — Top of Funnel (people who don't know you)

Cold audience. Goal: get noticed and give value. No selling. No "book now". Just useful content, short videos, saveable posts.

MOFU — Middle of Funnel (people who have seen you)

Retargeting people who interacted. Goal: build trust. Case studies, testimonials, content that proves competence.

BOFU — Bottom of Funnel (people who are ready)

Website visitors, leads, people in the cart. Goal: close. Clear offer, honest urgency, direct CTA.

How much to give each?

My standard approach: 60% TOFU, 25% MOFU, 15% BOFU. Sounds counterintuitive ("why spend more where I don't sell?"), but without feeding the first step, the other two dry up.

A funnel that doesn't generate new cold traffic dies in 3 months. Always.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to what people ask most about this topic.

Does Meta Ads still work for a local business?

Yes — it remains one of the most efficient ways to reach a precise geographic radius. What makes the difference is a clear offer, recognisable creative and a destination (page or WhatsApp) that doesn't lose the lead.

What budget do I need for a Meta Ads campaign?

A serious local test usually starts around €10-20 per day for 2-3 weeks: you need enough volume to learn which message and audience respond best.

Should I invest in ads or organic content?

Both. Content builds trust and recognition, ads bring speed and volume. On their own, ads pay more for the same result.

How long does it take to see the first results?

Early tests (ads, content, simple automations) usually show signals in 2-4 weeks. Structural impact on leads and sales typically takes 2-3 months of consistent work with weekly measurement.

Do I need a big budget to start?

No. Start with a small, measurable scope: one goal, one channel, one metric. Budget grows only when the numbers show the process works.

How do you measure the return of this work?

With a few clear indicators: leads generated, cost per lead, reply rate and conversion into customers. All tracked in analytics, no vanity metrics.
